Fact Sheet

The short, plain version of Side Quest — handy for quick reference.

What Side Quest is

Side Quest (Find Your Side Quest) is a locally run social community for differently-wired kids — the quirky, quiet, creative, curious, neurospicy kind — and their families in southern and midcoast Maine.

It hosts small, low-pressure gatherings built around shared interests: board games, LEGO, Minecraft, book clubs, campfires, and creative projects. There is no membership, no diagnosis required, and nothing to fix — kids simply do things they enjoy alongside other kids, while parents connect nearby.

Side Quest is not therapy and not a social skills group. It was started by local parents, and it is run by local parents.

Where and when

Gatherings currently happen in Freeport, Maine, at two small, calm venues: the Sun Porch at Freeport Community Library and The Bradley Room at the Freeport Community Center.

Groups for Brunswick, Yarmouth, and Cumberland, Maine are in the works. An online community is also planned.

What happens at a gathering

Small groups — typically around eight kids — with a quiet, low-key setup. Kids can join an activity or just hang out; no introductions are required. A leatherbound Book of Explorers travels to every gathering so kids can sign in, draw, or make their mark.

Cost varies by quest and is listed with each one; some details are still being finalized. The Mapmakers' Guild, a maker-style quest, has eight spots per session.

How to join

Families start with a short interest survey (about two minutes) so gatherings can be matched to what kids actually enjoy. There's also a waitlist for the Mapmakers' Guild. Families outside the current towns can register interest in starting a local group.
